Amaad Arana has been identified as the 19-year-old who died in a motorcycle accident in Hopkins Village

On Saturday night, a tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of 19-year-old Amaad Arana in Hopkins Village. Arana was on his way to meet friends at a nightclub when he was struck and killed by an SUV while turning into the Uno service station entrance near Savannah View Restaurant on Hopkins Access Road.

The devastating incident was witnessed by Arana’s brother, Raheem Casimiro, who was already at the nightclub. Casimiro recounted the moment, saying he saw the accident unfold without initially realizing it was his brother involved. “We saw everything,” Casimiro shared. “When I got there and saw his face, I went under the vehicle to try to help him. I told him to stay with me, but I knew he was already gone.”

Amaad Arana was a cherished member of the community, known for his enthusiasm for sports and vibrant personality. Hopkins Village President Makarios Augustin reflected on Arana’s impact, saying, “He was always full of energy and respect. He was actively involved in local sports and made a significant contribution to our community.”

The accident occurred in an area notorious for speeding, prompting Augustine to call for urgent measures to prevent future tragedies. “We have requested the installation of speed bumps in the village, especially in areas with businesses, but we are still waiting. It’s time to take action,” Augustine emphasized.

Arana, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was struck when the SUV attempted to overtake them during the turn. The motorcycle’s driver, Keegan Martinez, survived with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.

The community of Hopkins Village is deeply mourning the loss of Amaad Arana, remembering him as a vibrant young man with a deep love for sports and respect for his community. Efforts are ongoing to improve road safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
