Apalachee High School Fatal Shooting: Lockdown Suspect’s Father also Arrested

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested 54-year-old Colin Gray, father of 14-year-old Colt Gray, the suspected shooter in the Apalachee High School incident.

Colin faces multiple charges, including four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children.

“These charges stem from Mr. Gray knowingly allowing his son, Colt, to possess a weapon,” said GBI Director Chris Hosey during a press conference held Thursday evening.

Last year, Colin and his son Colt were interviewed by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office after the FBI linked threats made on a Discord server to Colt, who was 13 at the time.

GBI officials refrained from discussing specific evidence but confirmed Colin’s arrest followed the establishment of probable cause. He has been booked into the Barrow County Jail.

Authorities also reported that all nine individuals injured in the shooting are expected to recover. Two of the injured were teachers, and the rest were students, with several still receiving hospital care.

Officials reminded students to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.

Meanwhile, a hearing has been scheduled for Colt Gray, who is accused of killing four people and injuring nine others during the mass shooting at Apalachee High School, located just outside Winder in Barrow County.
