Libby led a life rich in dedication and affection, marked by her unwavering commitment to both her career and loved ones. She retired as a librarian at McCracken County Library, where she spent years fostering a passion for reading and learning within the community. Her career was a testament to her belief in the power of knowledge and her dedication to nurturing it in others.

Before her time at the library, Libby served as an Instrument Technician at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Sequoyah Nuclear Plant near Chattanooga, TN. Her role in a traditionally male-dominated field demonstrated her exceptional skill and pioneering spirit, paving the way for future generations of women in engineering and technology.

A Loving Partnership

Libby was a devoted wife to Spencer Childers, with whom she shared 29 wonderful years of marriage until his passing. Their relationship was a true partnership, characterized by love, mutual respect, and shared passions. Together, they enjoyed many cherished moments, including trips to the beach where Libby found peace in the ocean’s beauty and the simple joy of walking along the shore.

Family and Personal Passions

Libby’s love for her family extended to her nieces and nephews, whom she supported and cherished throughout her life. Her brother, Michael Studdard, and his wife, Suzanne, along with her nephew David Whitten and his wife, Sherry, niece Kimberly Whitten, niece Sara Studdard and her husband, Cory York, and nephew Daniel Studdard and his wife, Erika, remember her as a source of strength and kindness.

An avid reader, Libby delighted in escaping into the pages of books, exploring new worlds and ideas. She was also a passionate sports fan, proudly supporting the Auburn Tigers football team and more recently, the Murray State Racers baseball team. Her enthusiasm for sports reflected her vibrant spirit and belief in the value of teamwork and perseverance.

Memorial Arrangements

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a service at 1:00 pm at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 3745 Old US Highway 45 S, Paducah, KY 42003.
