Mike Lynch’s Death & Obituary: An inquest into the death of Stephen Chamberlain, former vice president at Autonomy and associate of tech tycoon Mike Lynch, has confirmed that he died from a “traumatic head injury” after being hit by a car in Cambridgeshire. The inquest has been adjourned pending a police investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
On August 17, 2024, Chamberlain, 52, was running in Stretham when the incident occurred. The car struck him as it crossed a humpback bridge on the A1123, causing “significant injuries.” Chamberlain was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he passed away on August 20.
This tragic event occurred just a day before Lynch, along with six others, was killed when his superyacht, Bayesian, sank off the coast of Sicily on August 19. The superyacht capsized during a storm, and Italian authorities are investigating the incident, with three crew members, including the captain, facing potential charges.

Chamberlain and Lynch had recently been cleared of fraud charges in a US trial related to the $11 billion sale of Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard in 2011. The trial had exonerated them from allegations of conspiracy and wire fraud, although Sushovan Hussain, the company’s former finance chief, was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison.
Coroner Caroline Jones described the accident in Alconbury, noting that Chamberlain was crossing the road between two parts of a bridleway when the vehicle hit him. The inquest will continue once the police investigation is complete.
