Stanley Kahana and Jennifer Hufnell Car Accident: A tragic wrong-way crash on Route 55 in Mantua Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey, claimed the lives of two individuals on Thursday morning, sending shockwaves through the community.
The incident, which occurred just before 9 a.m., resulted in the deaths of 62-year-old Stanley Kahana from Philadelphia and 53-year-old Jennifer Hufnell from Deptford, New Jersey. The collision has left investigators from the New Jersey State Police working to determine the cause.
According to the New Jersey State Police (NJSP), the accident took place on Route 55 North near milepost 51.8, between Exit 48 (Ellis Street in Glassboro) and Exit 53 (Woodbury-Glassboro Road). The crash led to a complete closure of the northbound lanes for several hours as first responders and investigators worked at the scene.
The crash occurred when a Jeep Compass driven by Kahana was traveling southbound on Route 55 and suddenly veered into the northbound lanes, heading in the wrong direction. This dangerous maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with a Toyota Rav4 driven by Hufnell. Both vehicles overturned upon impact, with the Toyota catching fire. Tragically, both Kahana and Hufnell sustained fatal injuries and did not survive the violent collision.

The aftermath of the crash was chaotic, with debris scattered across the highway. Aerial footage from Chopper 3 showed one of the vehicles overturned in the median, while the other lay on its side on the grassy shoulder. The extensive damage and the severity of the crash underscored the seriousness of the incident.
In addition to the tragic loss of life, the accident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of road conditions and the critical importance of remaining vigilant while driving.
